Nigerian Breweries Maintains Market Dominance Amidst Economic Hurdles

Nigerian Breweries Plc has reaffirmed its status as Nigeria’s premier brewing company, holding the top position in both the Lager and Malt segments, while ranking second in the stout category.
During the 2024 Pre-Annual General Meeting media briefing in Lagos, Managing Director Hans Essaadi shared insights on the company’s impressive performance and strategic direction. He highlighted the successful acquisition of Distel Wines and Spirits Nigeria, which positions the company as a comprehensive beverage provider, catering to a diverse range of consumer preferences.
Essaadi reported a remarkable financial performance for the 2024 fiscal year, driven by innovative branding, effective market strategies, and a robust distribution network. “Despite facing numerous challenges, our company exhibited resilience, achieving a historic group revenue of N1.1 trillion, representing an 81% year-on-year growth. However, we grappled with high inflation and naira devaluation, which led to a 98% increase in the Cost of Goods Sold and a 34% rise in Net Finance Costs, ultimately resulting in a 36% increase in our Net Loss,” he explained.
He emphasized that Nigerian Breweries has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality products that resonate with consumers’ needs. The company operates seven breweries, one melting plant, 21 depots, and 12 sales regions across Nigeria, ensuring a dominant presence in the market.
“In alignment with our core values and purpose, we will continue to brew joy and foster togetherness while prioritizing our commitment to consumers, innovation, and sustainability,” Essaadi stated.
He also mentioned the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation within the beer and wine segments, revealing exciting product launches in the past year. Notable introductions include the Heineken lager 45cl bottle, a drought option for Legend Extra Stout—the first of its kind in Nigeria—and the relaunch of the iconic Star lager brand, among others.
As Nigerian Breweries Plc continues to navigate the complexities of the brewing industry, it remains dedicated to pioneering growth and delivering exceptional value to its consumers.
