‘A Sabi Experience’: Film in the Park 2.0 Festival Set for September 21
The highly anticipated second edition of the Film in the Park (FLIP) Festival is scheduled for Sunday, September 21, 2025, at the iconic Freedom Park on Broad Street, Lagos Island. The event runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., promising an afternoon filled with cinematic magic, vibrant performances, and community engagement.
Tomiwa Precious Otun, the festival’s convener and a passionate emerging film producer, shared exciting details: “This year’s FLIP will showcase over ten films, alongside live performances, storytelling sessions, and opportunities for community interaction,” she said. “Our goal is to create a platform where emerging African filmmakers can share authentic stories that reflect our realities, resilience, and creative spirit.”
Building on the success of last year’s debut, Otun emphasized that this year’s festival aims to be bigger, bolder, and more impactful. Attendees can look forward to meet-and-greet sessions with filmmakers, networking opportunities, musical performances by upcoming artists, fun games, and a relaxed environment for enjoying cinema under the open sky.
Otun reminisced about the nostalgic feeling of the first trip to the cinema—the flickering lights, the darkness, and the awe of watching stories unfold on the big screen. “Our festival seeks to reignite that magic,” she explained. “By showcasing the works of emerging filmmakers, we want to celebrate the art of storytelling and its power to connect us all.”
The festival’s theme, *A Sabi Experience,” underscores its commitment to unveiling diverse voices within the Nigerian and African film industries. “It’s about celebrating our resilience, creativity, and the vibrant experiences of young Nigerians,” Otun added. “Films are a lasting art form that captures our societal realities and can be powerful tools for cultural documentation and social change.”
She further highlighted the importance of positive representation, noting that films influence perceptions—such as those of authorities like the police—and that FLIP aims to shape narratives positively. “The stories we tell today will forge the legacy of tomorrow,” she said.
Scheduled to host over 200 film enthusiasts, the event will take place at Freedom Park, Hospital Road, off Broad Street, Lagos Island. Entry tickets are priced at ₦3,000 for students, ₦7,500 for regular attendees, and ₦20,000 for VIP access.
