Abbey Mortgage Bank Appoints John Okonkwo as Executive Director to Drive Financial Growth and Innovation

Abbey Mortgage Bank Plc, a prominent player in Nigeria’s mortgage sector, has announced the appointment of Mr. John Okonkwo as its new Executive Director responsible for Finance, Risk, and Operations. This strategic move aims to enhance the bank’s management capabilities and reinforce its commitment to delivering innovative financial solutions.
Mr. Okonkwo brings over two decades of extensive experience in finance, risk management, governance, and corporate compliance across various industries. An accomplished professional, he is a KPMG-trained accountant, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), and an alumnus of the Lagos Business School’s Advanced Management Programme (AMP).
His career began at KPMG, after which he held key finance, governance, and risk roles at notable institutions including Heirs Holdings Group, United Bank for Africa Plc, and VFD Group Plc.
In his new capacity, Mr. Okonkwo will oversee the bank’s financial strategies, risk management policies, and operational functions, aligning them with Abbey’s vision to offer customer-centric, innovative financial services and drive sustainable growth.
The Chairman of Abbey Mortgage Bank Plc, High Chief Samuel Oni, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, stating, “We are excited to welcome John to our Board. The appointment has received formal approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), following the requisite regulatory procedures.
