Wema Bank Set to Close Entries for One-Day MD/CEO Children’s Day Initiative

Wema Bank has issued a final call for entries in its popular Children’s Day initiative, offering children and teenagers the extraordinary opportunity to serve as MD/CEO of Nigeria’s oldest indigenous bank for a day. With the deadline set for Wednesday, 20 May 2026, interested participants are urged to submit their entries without delay.
Launched in May 2025 as part of Wema Bank’s 80th anniversary celebrations, the One-Day MD/CEO programme was introduced to mark Children’s Day in an innovative and unprecedented manner. Inspired by the bank’s anniversary theme, “80 Years of Impact, A Future of Possibilities,” the initiative aims to connect the bank’s rich history with the future of Nigeria’s youth. It provides a platform for children across the country to experience leadership firsthand by stepping into the shoes of the bank’s top executive for a day.
The 2025 edition saw 12-year-old Chiderije Mbah emerge as the winner, capturing national attention and inspiring a new generation of young Nigerians to aspire towards success. The programme was widely praised, with children across Nigeria motivated to envision a brighter future, and parents commending Wema Bank’s ongoing commitment to empowering young people and fostering leadership.
This year, the initiative has returned on a larger scale, with Wema Bank offering another child or teenager aged between 0 and 16 the chance to oversee the operations of Nigeria’s pioneering digital bank, ALAT, Nigeria’s oldest indigenous bank, and one of the most innovative financial institutions in Africa. The chosen child will participate in board meetings, make strategic decisions, and gain invaluable insight into the responsibilities of a top executive.
To enter, children and teens are required to record a 60-second video explaining what their ideal role in banking would be and what they hope to achieve. The video must be posted on any social media platform, using the hashtag #EvolutionOfPossibilities, and tagged @wemabank. The submission with the most likes will be declared the winner and will serve as MD/CEO of Wema Bank on Monday, 25 May 2026, in celebration of Children’s Day.
Both parents and young participants are encouraged to submit their entries promptly, as the deadline is fast approaching. Entries close at midnight on 20 May 2026.
