Rainoil MD Ogbechie Calls for Strategic Leadership, Innovation in Nigerian Business Ecosystem
The Group Managing Director of Rainoil Limited, Mr Gabriel Ogbechie, has underscored the vital role of mentorship, innovation, resilience, and strategic leadership in fostering sustainable enterprises and propelling Nigeria’s economic development.
Ogbechie made these remarks on Tuesday during the inaugural edition of the Gabriel Ogbechie’s Entrepreneurship Symposium, held in Lagos as part of the celebrations marking his 60th birthday.
Designed to serve as a platform for knowledge exchange, mentorship, networking, and entrepreneurial advancement, the symposium attracted entrepreneurs, business executives, professionals, and aspiring business owners from diverse sectors.
Addressing the gathering, Ogbechie explained that the initiative was born out of a desire to nurture a new generation of entrepreneurs equipped with the right mindset, values, and business acumen to succeed in an increasingly competitive and dynamic economic landscape.
He emphasised that entrepreneurship extends beyond profit generation, demanding discipline, consistency, innovation, integrity, and the resilience to navigate economic challenges.
Ogbechie remarked that the symposium aimed to expose young entrepreneurs to practical experiences and real-world business lessons that could influence their personal and professional growth.
He highlighted that many thriving businesses succeed not only because of access to capital but also due to mentorship, strategic guidance, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
“The purpose of this symposium is to inspire entrepreneurs and expose them to experiences, ideas, and conversations that can positively transform their businesses and future,” he stated.
Ogbechie further noted that creating spaces for young business owners to engage with accomplished industry leaders is essential for national progress and long-term economic sustainability.
The event featured keynote addresses and panel discussions led by prominent business figures and professionals, sharing insights on leadership, innovation, enterprise growth, and economic transformation.
Mr Tope Shonubi, Executive Director of Sahara Group, urged entrepreneurs to embrace integrity, patience, resilience, and innovation in building sustainable businesses. He observed that long-term success hinges on consistency, credibility, and adaptability to evolving market realities.
Shonubi also commended Ogbechie’s ongoing dedication to supporting entrepreneurs through impactful initiatives that contribute to national growth.
In his contribution, Mr Austin Avuru, Chairman of AA Holdings, highlighted the importance of increased investment in education, healthcare, and innovation as key drivers of socio-economic progress. He called on both public and private sector stakeholders to prioritise policies that create opportunities for young entrepreneurs and innovators across Nigeria.
Mrs Godrey Ogbechie, wife of the celebrant and Group Executive Director of Rainoil Limited, described the symposium as a reflection of her husband’s enduring passion for mentoring and empowering young entrepreneurs. She stated that the event was not merely a celebration of his 60th birthday, but a strategic platform to inspire, support, and equip emerging business leaders with the knowledge, exposure, and confidence necessary for success.
As part of the programme, ten selected entrepreneurs received financial grants of N5 million each to bolster and expand their enterprises, reinforcing the symposium’s commitment to nurturing entrepreneurial excellence in Nigeria.
