M.Inc PR Calls for Closer Media-PR Collaborations on World PR Day 2026

In a powerful call for stronger collaboration within the communications ecosystem, public relations professionals are emphasizing the importance of forging closer ties with the media as organizations navigate an increasingly complex information landscape. This environment is being reshaped by advances in artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and heightened public scrutiny.

The message was central to the 2026 World PR Day celebration hosted by M.Inc PR in Lagos, themed “The Golden Age of Strategic PR.” The event brought together industry leaders, emphasizing the vital role of strategic partnerships in shaping effective communication.

Speaking at the event, Mirabel Aleladia, Founder and Chief Strategist of M.Inc PR, highlighted that while artificial intelligence is transforming the profession, the true long-term impact depends on maintaining trusted relationships between PR practitioners, journalists, and stakeholders.

According to her, the rapid pace at which information travels underscores the need for robust collaboration to protect credibility and ensure the public receives accurate, verified content.

“The future of communications is not about replacing people with technology. It is about strengthening the partnerships that help organisations communicate with authenticity, transparency, and purpose,” she said.

Aleladia pointed out that the industry is entering a new phase where strategic counsel, ethical communication, and reputation management are becoming more critical as organizations adapt to shifting public expectations. She emphasized that artificial intelligence should be viewed as a productivity enhancer that automates routine tasks, leaving strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and crisis management in human hands.

“I think this new age is less about replacing traditional PR and more about strengthening it with the tools now available to us,” she noted.

While acknowledging the widespread adoption of AI across the industry, Aleladia cautioned against an overreliance on technology alone, stressing that effective public relations requires judgment, emotional intelligence, and contextual understanding — qualities that technology cannot replicate.

She concluded that professionals who responsibly embrace AI while investing in human relationships will be positioned for long-term success and value delivery.

Addressing another critical challenge, Aleladia identified media literacy as a pressing concern. She observed that misinformation continues to proliferate largely because many individuals lack the skills to verify sources or distinguish credible information from false narratives.

Echoing insights from Bemu Awala, Head of Communications at Moniepoint, she called for media literacy to be prioritized with the same level of national attention as financial literacy, urging increased investment in education, awareness campaigns, and community engagement.

“As the world becomes increasingly digital, people need to know where to find credible information and how to verify what they consume before sharing it,” she said.

Aleladia also highlighted the growing strategic importance of public relations in the digital age, noting that organizations are seeking professional support to protect reputation, manage crises, and build meaningful stakeholder relationships as they face heightened scrutiny.

She emphasized that PR professionals must evolve from mere publicity agents to trusted advisors guiding leadership through complex reputational challenges.

“I see public relations as a strategic partner to leadership. Technology can improve efficiency, but it cannot replace the human intelligence, trust, and relationships that define our profession,” she stated.

Participants at the event agreed that the future of strategic PR hinges on stronger collaboration among communication professionals, journalists, business leaders, and technology providers—ensuring that innovation amplifies, rather than diminishes, the human insight at the core of effective communication.

The celebration reaffirmed the importance of ethical storytelling, responsible AI use, media collaboration, and strategic communication in fostering a more informed and connected society.
