Cycling Lagos 2025: Athletes Showcase Talent as Agbo, Olawale, Others Emerge Winners
The National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, was buzzing with energy on Saturday as cyclists from across Nigeria converged for the highly anticipated 4th edition of Cycling Lagos.
In the male professional category, Ogun State’s Agbo Francis, who finished second in 2024, secured the gold medal, showcasing his growth and determination. Lagos cyclist Balogun Abdulazeez earned the silver, while the emerging talent Ibrahim Asiru, also from Lagos, took home the bronze.
The female professional race saw Olawale Peace from Oyo State, who previously claimed gold in the Amateur Race last year, triumph again—this time in the professional division. Lagos’ Oyewole Kate, who finished third in 2024, improved her standing to earn silver, with Azeez Medinate from Oyo State claiming bronze.
Young cyclists also dazzled spectators. In the Under-15 male category, Oyo’s Akinola Desting took gold, followed by Osun’s Goodluck Emmanuel with silver, and Oyo’s Hamzat Keyinde securing bronze.
In the Under-15 female category, athletes from Oyo State dominated the podium: Azeez Hazanat took gold, Aminu Olamide earned silver, and Odebiyi Iqnat finished with bronze.
The Under-10 division was equally competitive, with Amoo Malik from Ogun State winning gold. Ridiwan Fuwad from Oyo State finished second, and Bello Adams completed the top three with bronze.
In the girls’ Under-10 race, Aminu Olamikposi from Oyo State claimed the gold medal, while Azeez Amira and Abidoye Ayomide, both from Oyo, secured silver and bronze respectively.
During the event, Bamidele Adeleye, Convener of Cycling Lagos and Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications, praised all participants. “Congratulations to all our winners this year. To those who didn’t take medals, your effort and participation are equally valuable. Keep pedaling, and you could be champions in 2026,” he said.
Adeleye highlighted the progress of some athletes: “Agbo Francis, who was second last year, is now our champion. Olawale Peace has also made a remarkable leap from amateur success to professional victory. These stories inspire us all.”
He urged government authorities at all levels to increase investment in sports development. “Sports is a catalyst for economic growth and youth empowerment. Nigeria is teeming with talented young people, and with proper support, they can shine on the global stage. The right environment and backing are essential.”

Cycling Lagos aims to promote healthy lifestyles and cultivate a cycling culture among enthusiasts, corporate leaders, and the broader community nationwide.
The event’s theme for 2025, “Sustainability Energy,” was supported by sponsors including Samsung, Nestlé Nigeria Plc, Mountains Energy Solution, Cway, Peak Yoghurt, Leadway Assurance, DStv, and the Lagos State Cycling Association.
