FIRS Extends Tax Office Hours to Weekends Throughout June

The Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Zacch Adedeji, has announced an extension of the agency’s operating hours to include weekends for the entire month of June. This strategic move aims to assist taxpayers in meeting the upcoming tax filing deadline, particularly for companies with fiscal years ending December 31.

In a statement released by Dare Adekanmbi, Special Adviser on Media to the FIRS Chairman, the initiative underscores Adedeji’s commitment to aligning the agency’s customer-focused policies with practical actions that facilitate compliance. Under this directive, tax offices across Nigeria will operate from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturdays and from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays, starting June 14 and concluding on June 29.

The extension is specifically designed to support the peak period for Companies Income Tax (CIT) filings, as many taxpayers are required by law to submit their returns by June 30. By increasing operational hours during weekends, the FIRS aims to ease the filing process, improve service delivery, and maximize revenue collection during this critical period.

The decision was communicated to staff in the Large Taxpayers Group (LTG), Medium Taxpayers Group (MTG), and Emerging Taxpayers Group (ETG) by their respective Coordinating Directors—Ms. Amina Ado, Dr. Dick Irri, and Mr. Kabir Abba—who emphasized the importance of this measure in supporting taxpayers during the busy filing season.

Since assuming office, Zacch Adedeji has spearheaded reforms within the FIRS, transforming it from a mere revenue collector into a proactive, service-oriented agency dedicated to making tax compliance easier and more accessible for Nigerians.
