inDrive Hosts Second Safety Education Summit in Lagos, Prioritizes Rider and Driver Protection

inDrive, a leading global ride-hailing platform, recently hosted its second annual Safety Education Summit 2.0 in Lagos. The event aimed to enhance passenger and driver safety within Nigeria’s ride-hailing ecosystem through dialogue, innovation, and collaboration among government officials, private stakeholders, users, and drivers.
During the summit, Timothy Oladimeji, Nigeria Country Director of inDrive, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to safety, emphasizing that safety remains a “top of mind” priority. He highlighted inDrive’s investment in proactive technological features designed to uphold global safety standards before trips commence and stressed that the summit serves as a platform for actionable steps to improve safety outcomes.
Oladimeji also emphasized the importance of user education, encouraging passengers to actively utilize safety features such as checking driver details, sharing ride information, and providing feedback. A key feature spotlighted was the ability for users to select drivers based on ratings, allowing them to make informed choices and foster trust. He explained, “Five drivers come out. The first driver has 2,000 trips and a 5.0 rating. The second has 100 trips and a 4.8 rating. Who would you choose?… The driver with 2,000 trips and a perfect rating has proven their reliability, which helps keep you safe.”
The summit also showcased inDrive’s latest safety innovations, including a live ride-tracking feature, designed to offer greater security and transparency. High-level officials, including representatives from the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Nigerian Police Force, presented strategies to improve road safety and strengthen regulatory collaboration.
Mary-Anne Momoh-Ige, inDrive’s Public Policy & Government Affairs Manager, called for increased stakeholder cooperation to foster safer mobility environments.
Additionally, Engr. Adebayo Olusoji, representing the Lagos State Commissioner of Transportation, highlighted the importance of inter-agency coordination and standardizing safety regulations across all transportation modes.
The event included valuable insights from Dr. Femi Onasanya of Emergency Response Africa, who outlined critical steps for handling injuries during mobility incidents, emphasizing the importance of scene safety, assessment, first aid, and proper reporting.
Concluding the summit, Oladimeji expressed optimism about translating discussions into tangible safety improvements. The event reaffirmed inDrive’s dedication to setting new safety standards through innovative technology, user empowerment, and collaborative efforts within Nigeria’s ride-hailing industry.
