New NAIC MD Vows Inclusive Reforms to Boost Nigeria’s Agriculture Insurance Sector
Yazid Shehu Danfulani, the newly appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC), officially assumed office in Abuja yesterday. He pledged to spearhead reforms aimed at fostering greater inclusivity within Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
During a reception at NAIC’s headquarters attended by staff and journalists, Mr. Danfulani outlined his vision for the corporation, emphasizing expanded access to insurance and financing, strengthened collaborations, increased awareness campaigns, and the protection of agro-allied projects from natural hazards.
He expressed his commitment to working closely with state governments and other stakeholders to make insurance more accessible for farmers and agro-businesses, especially in the face of natural disasters.
Addressing the challenge of low awareness among farmers regarding NAIC’s functions, he announced plans for nationwide sensitization initiatives to educate farmers on how to access insurance benefits.
“Our goal is to ensure collaboration between the Federal and State Governments to improve awareness and access to insurance for farmers. Many farmers are unaware of what NAIC offers. We will undertake comprehensive awareness campaigns and increase funding to benefit the agricultural community,” Mr. Danfulani stated.
He also emphasized the importance of making NAIC’s services more efficient and accessible, highlighting the impact of climate change and other local challenges on agriculture. The corporation has already conducted a SWOT analysis to guide its strategic reforms.
Mr. Danfulani called on staff to be innovative and proactive in addressing sectoral challenges, including climate change and financial access. He expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and reiterated his pledge to promote reforms that foster inclusiveness in Nigeria’s agricultural landscape.
Appointed on May 21, 2025, alongside two other executive directors—Mr. Abubakar Umar Jarengo (Operations) and Mr. Babafemi Ayandayo Rasheed (Admin and Finance)—Mr. Danfulani’s initial four-year term was approved by President Tinubu.
