GTCO Strengthens Sports Development as Lagos STL Wins at 2026 Lagos Polo
Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting sports development in Nigeria and across Africa following the exciting conclusion of the 2026 NPA Lagos International Polo Tournament, where Lagos STL emerged victorious in the prestigious Majekodunmi Cup.
As the headline sponsor of one of Africa’s oldest and most renowned polo events, GTCO continues to champion a platform that combines sporting excellence with cultural heritage, lifestyle engagement, and international participation. The 2026 edition, hosted at the historic Lagos Polo Club from 27 January to 15 February, drew elite local and international teams, dignitaries, corporate leaders, and thousands of spectators, cementing its reputation as Africa’s premier polo showcase.
The final of the Majekodunmi Cup provided a thrilling contest as Lagos STL defeated Shoreline/A1 10–7 in a fiercely competitive match decided by a dramatic late goal. The victory marked a dominant campaign for STL, who also claimed the Independence Cup, Dapo Ojora Cup, Owen Cup, and the Argentine Ambassador’s Cup — a clean sweep that showcased the team’s depth, discipline, and championship pedigree.
Speaking on the importance of the tournament and GTCO’s ongoing sponsorship, Group Chief Executive Officer Segun Agbaje emphasised the broader impact of sport in nation-building and international positioning.

While finishing runners-up in the Majekodunmi and Independence Cups, Shoreline/A1 celebrated success earlier by winning the Oba of Lagos Cup. Other highlights included Lagos Art Hotel’s dramatic victory in the Chapel Hill Denham Open Cup and Kano Golden Alchemy’s commanding win of the Sani Dangote Memorial Cup — results that demonstrated the tournament’s competitive depth and national reach.
