FRSC Commends Dangote Cement for Industry-Leading Road Safety Reforms

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has lauded Dangote Cement Transport for achieving significant and measurable advancements in road safety across Nigeria. Since the implementation of innovative transport safety policies and operational reforms, there has been a notable decline in articulated truck crashes nationwide.

Described by the FRSC as a benchmark for transport management and road safety practices not only within Nigeria but across Africa, Dangote Cement’s efforts exemplify industry leadership in safety innovation.

During a recent visit by Dangote Cement Plc to the FRSC Headquarters, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the company for setting new standards in road safety management. He emphasised the importance of sustained commitment to these initiatives that are reshaping Nigeria’s transport landscape. Data comparing 2025 and 2026 indicates a 56 per cent reduction in road crashes involving Dangote Cement trucks, alongside a 36 per cent decline in fatalities and a 52 per cent reduction in injuries.

The Corps Marshal highlighted that these positive outcomes are a testament to the effective execution of Dangote Cement’s Gap Analysis and internal transport safety policies, which he described as models worthy of emulation across Africa. He reaffirmed that when industry leaders prioritise safety, the benefits extend beyond individual companies, positively impacting the entire nation and continent.

Murilo Silva, Head of Transport at Dangote Cement Plc, remarked on the company’s ongoing investments in cutting-edge transport management systems, including automated inspection technologies and artificial intelligence–driven solutions designed to optimise operational efficiency and safety. He noted that the longstanding collaboration with the FRSC in developing and implementing transport policies is now delivering tangible results. The company’s comprehensive safety approach includes driver recertification programmes and continuous retraining initiatives.

Dr. James Adenuga, Group Chief HSSE and Sustainability Officer for Dangote Industries Limited, emphasised that these achievements are driven by strong leadership commitment and unwavering support for innovation. He reaffirmed Dangote Cement’s focus on continuous improvement through sustained reforms, safety enhancements, and innovative initiatives aimed at increasing efficiency, aligning with global best practices, and generating lasting value for stakeholders and local communities.

Ozovehe Abraham, Lead Fleet Safety, Nigeria, at Dangote Cement Plc, disclosed that the company has deployed advanced technologies to monitor driver behaviour in real time. These systems promote compliance with safety standards, detect risky driving early, and support ongoing driver performance improvements. He also indicated that Dangote Cement is currently refining its speed limit policies as part of broader safety measures to further reduce road crashes and reinforce safer haulage practices.

Representing Dangote Cement at the FRSC Headquarters were key members of the delegation, including Divisional Director of Transport Obajana Hemant Rana (Col Rtd.), Head of Pre-Trip Inspection Charles Theophilus, and Dr. Jibrin Abubakar of the Group Branding and Communications Department.
