Meta, FMCIDE, 3MTT, and RAIN Collaborate to Elevate AI Innovation and Talent Development in Nigeria

In a bold move to position Nigeria at the forefront of Africa’s AI ecosystem, Meta has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (FMCIDE), the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative, the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (NCAIR), and Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN) to launch AI Academy Nigeria — a comprehensive national capacity-building program designed to nurture and accelerate Nigeria’s artificial intelligence talent and innovation landscape.

This strategic alliance aims to empower Nigerian developers, startups, students, and early-career professionals with access to cutting-edge AI training, practical hands-on experience, and startup support. The initiative intends to bridge the gap between AI knowledge and real-world application, fostering the development of impactful, market-ready solutions.

AI Academy Nigeria will operate through three dynamic streams: AI Skills Development, Startup Pitchathon, and an Intensive Developer Bootcamp. These programs are tailored to provide foundational AI skills for beginners while offering advanced opportunities for seasoned developers and startup founders already working on AI-enabled solutions.

AI Startup Pitchathon

Applications close on August 21, 2026, for the Startup Pitchathon — a platform for early-stage Nigerian startups leveraging Meta’s AI technologies to address societal challenges. From an open call, ten startups will be selected to pitch at GITEX Nigeria on September 3, 2026. The top two startups will each receive $5,000 in cash funding and $2,000 in Meta advertising credits, along with an all-expenses-paid opportunity to showcase their solutions at the AI Summit by Meta in Istanbul, Türkiye, on November 23–24, 2026.

AI Skills Development Programs

Open to the entire 3MTT community across Nigeria, participants will access curated courses covering topics from generative AI fundamentals to building applications with Meta’s AI models. The programs include:

– Building Generative AI Apps with Llama (Professional Certificate)
– Prompt Engineering with Llama 2 & 3
– Introducing Multimodal Llama 3.2
– Generative AI in Data Analytics
– Generative AI in Social Media Marketing
– AI 101 curriculum (developed by Startupbootcamp for Meta)

Delivered via Coursera, DeepLearning.AI, and DataCamp at no cost, the top 100 performers will be eligible for scholarships toward Meta Blueprint certifications and receive up to $5,000 in advertising credits.

Developer Bootcamp

A six-week intensive Developer Bootcamp, delivered by RAIN, will focus on practical AI development. Selected developers and startups will work closely with Meta’s AI experts to build functional AI products and prepare market-ready solutions, gaining invaluable technical guidance and mentorship.

“Through this partnership, we are equipping developers, entrepreneurs, and young professionals with practical AI skills while creating pathways for innovation and globally competitive startups. This initiative further reflects our commitment to building a thriving AI ecosystem through strategic public-private collaboration and positioning Nigeria as a leader in Africa’s digital economy,” said Dr. ‘Bosun Tijani, Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy.

Sade Dada, Head of Public Policy for Meta in West Africa, emphasized Nigeria’s AI potential:
“Nigeria is home to some of Africa’s most dynamic AI talent. What many founders and developers need is greater access to practical training, funding and platforms to build impactful solutions. AI Academy Nigeria was built to provide exactly that — equipping more Nigerians with the skills to build with AI, while giving the strongest ideas a route from home to a regional stage.”

Dr. Olushola Ayoola, Founder and CEO of RAIN, highlighted the collaborative effort:
“Building Nigeria’s AI capacity requires the kind of coordinated effort we are seeing here. RAIN is proud to partner with Meta, FMCIDE and 3MTT to deliver a programme that reflects the scale of what is possible when the right partners align around a shared goal.”

This initiative aligns with 3MTT’s broader mission to develop Nigeria’s technical talent pipeline, fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth within the digital economy.
