AXA Mansard Calls on Insurance Journalists to Bridge Knowledge Gap Amid Recapitalization

In the wake of Nigeria’s ongoing insurance industry recapitalization, AXA Mansard has called on insurance journalists to go beyond mere reportage and play a pivotal role in interpreting complex industry developments. The focus is on translating technical reforms into relatable insights that help Nigerians understand how such changes affect their lives and financial security.

The appeal was made by Olusesan Ogunyooye, Head of Marketing at AXA Mansard, during the inauguration of the newly elected executives of the National Association of Insurance and Pension Editors (NAIPE).

Congratulating the new leadership, Ogunyooye praised NAIPE and its members for their longstanding contribution to bridging the information gap between the insurance sector and the public through credible, insightful, and consistent reporting.

He acknowledged the association’s vital role in elevating important industry conversations and keeping stakeholders informed about key developments across Nigeria’s insurance landscape.

“On behalf of AXA Mansard, I congratulate the newly inaugurated executives of NAIPE and wish them a successful tenure. I must also commend the association and its members for the remarkable work you are doing in connecting our industry with the public and ensuring important information reaches Nigerians,” he said.

While recognizing the strides made in industry reporting, Ogunyooye emphasized that a significant education gap persists—highlighting an opportunity for the media and industry operators to deepen public understanding of how insurance can positively impact lives and secure wealth.

He stressed that as Nigeria’s insurance sector undergoes transformative reforms—particularly the ongoing recapitalization—media professionals have a unique role in helping consumers grasp the direct benefits of a stronger, more resilient industry.

“While you have done an excellent job reporting developments within the insurance industry, there is still a need to bridge the education gap. The public does not only need information; they also need understanding. This is why we believe the media must continue to evolve from reporting industry news to interpreting and translating it in ways that are relatable to everyday Nigerians,” he explained.

Ogunyooye further noted that the ongoing recapitalization is not just an industry story—it’s a consumer story. The media’s role in helping Nigerians connect industry reforms with their daily realities can drive greater confidence, improve claims settlement capacity, foster innovation, and deliver better protection for individuals, families, and businesses.

“Recapitalization is not just an industry story. It is a consumer story. Beyond the headlines, we look forward to how you will support our industry by helping Nigerians understand how a stronger insurance industry can enhance consumer confidence, improve insurers’ capacity to settle claims, drive innovation, and ultimately provide better protection for individuals, families, and businesses.”

He added that clear interpretation and simplification of industry developments are critical to boosting insurance awareness, building public trust, and increasing adoption of insurance products across Nigeria.

AXA Mansard reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the media and industry stakeholders to promote insurance education, financial inclusion, and protection initiatives that benefit Nigerians.

The inauguration, which brought together insurance leaders, regulators, media professionals, and key stakeholders, celebrated NAIPE’s new leadership while emphasizing the vital role of journalism in driving the growth and development of Nigeria’s financial services sector.
