Cycling Africa Unveils 5th Cycling Lagos Webinar to Highlight Nigeria’s Hidden Recycling Opportunities
Cycling Africa is set to convene a diverse assembly of experts, policymakers, environmental advocates, recycling practitioners, and business leaders for the 5th Cycling Lagos Webinar—an impactful platform dedicated to exploring Nigeria’s vast recycling potential. The event aims to facilitate strategic discussions on expanding recycling capacity and transforming waste into economic and environmental assets.
Scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2026, the webinar serves as a key precursor to the upcoming Cycling Lagos event, scheduled for Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Lagos’s iconic National Stadium, Surulere.
Bamidele Adeleye, President and CEO of Cycling Africa, emphasized the significance of the virtual summit, stating, “The webinar would provide a platform for experts and stakeholders to discuss practical solutions to Nigeria’s growing waste management challenges while exploring the economic opportunities within the recycling value chain.”
Attendees will include industry leaders such as Dr. Olugbenga Adebola, National President of the Association of Waste Managers of Nigeria (AWAMN); Mrs. Chidilim Menakaya, Director of Sahara Group Foundation; and Princess Florence Oluwafeyikemi Egbeyemi, Regional Coordinator for the Recyclers Association of Nigeria (RAN). The session will be moderated by Clara Okoro, former Chairman of the Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN) and Executive Producer of Brandworld Media.
Under the theme “Trash to Treasure: Unlocking Recycling Capacity for a Sustainable Future,” the webinar underscores Cycling Africa’s commitment to fostering responsible waste management and environmental sustainability. The initiative is part of the broader 2026 Cycling Lagos campaign aimed at reshaping perceptions around waste—viewing discarded materials as vital resources with substantial economic and social value.
“Nigeria generates a huge volume of waste every day, yet a significant proportion of recyclable materials remains underutilised. We believe that stronger public awareness, investment in recycling infrastructure, effective policies and greater collaboration among stakeholders can help unlock the enormous potential of the recycling sector,” Adeleye explained.
He added, “Cycling Lagos has always been about more than cycling. It is a platform for promoting healthy lifestyles, sustainable communities and positive social change. This year, through the Trash to Treasure campaign, we are using cycling to draw attention to the urgent need for better waste management and the opportunities that recycling presents for Nigeria.”
The webinar will also explore the roles of government, private-sector investors, recycling companies, manufacturers, consumers, and community organizations in fostering a resilient circular economy. Participants will share insights and practical experiences on topics including waste collection, sorting, recycling, reuse, extended producer responsibility, job creation, and youth engagement within the recycling ecosystem.
