Cycling Lagos Kicks Off Online Registration Ahead of September 12 Grand Finale
The organisers of the 5th Cycling Lagos have officially opened the online registration portal for cyclists eager to participate in this year’s highly anticipated event, with the grand finale scheduled for Saturday, 12th September 2026. The event will commence from the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
Announcing the launch of online registration in Lagos, Bamidele Adeleye, Convener of Cycling Lagos and Managing Director of BrandEscort Communications, encouraged cyclists from across Nigeria and beyond to register early via the official portal to secure their place in what promises to be one of Africa’s largest cycling events.
Adeleye urged interested participants to scan the QR code on the event flyer or visit www.cyclinglagos.com to complete their registration. He noted that the registration portal opened on 1st July 2026 and will close on 26th August 2026.
“The registration process has been designed to make participation seamless, enabling riders to register conveniently from anywhere while ensuring efficient planning, accreditation, and event logistics,” he said.
The 5th Cycling Lagos will feature multiple race categories, including professional cyclists, amateur riders, children, celebrities, and recreational cyclists. The event aims to foster a vibrant atmosphere that promotes fitness, environmental sustainability, road safety, and sports tourism.
Speaking on the theme—‘Trash to Treasure’—Adeleye explained that the 2026 edition seeks to inspire dialogue around transforming waste into value, problems into opportunities, and discarded materials into innovative solutions.
“The theme also reflects the Cycling Lagos story—an event that began with modest public interest in 2018 but has grown into a movement inspiring similar cycling initiatives across Nigeria and Africa.
“Today, Cycling Lagos is recognised as a benchmark for cycling events, demonstrating how a single powerful idea can transform communities, promote healthier lifestyles, and raise environmental awareness.
“When we started this event in 2018, there were few major cycling events in Nigeria, and cycling culture was still developing. Through consistent advocacy and community engagement, the landscape has changed dramatically. More people are embracing cycling, and new events are emerging nationwide,” he shared.
Adeleye highlighted that Cycling Lagos’ success paved the way for the inaugural Cycling Kano in partnership with the Kano State Government in 2025, marking the first major cycling event of its kind in Northern Nigeria.
He added that over the past four editions, Cycling Lagos has continued to grow in popularity, attracting thousands of participants and spectators, while reinforcing Lagos’ status as one of Africa’s premier sports tourism destinations.
He called on corporate organisations, government agencies, development partners, cycling enthusiasts, and members of the public to support and participate in this landmark event, which aims to promote healthy living, environmental sustainability, youth development, and active mobility through cycling.
