FirstBank, Others Back Lagos’ Inaugural All-Electric Powerboat Race

The Local Organising Committee of the E1 Lagos GP has revealed its lineup of sponsors for Africa’s first all-electric powerboat race, scheduled to take place from October 2 to 5, 2025, on the Lagos Lagoon.

The announcement was made during the Stakeholder Immersion Session, designed to ensure that all participants—from sponsors and media to creators and influencers—share a unified understanding of the event’s identity, communication standards, and positioning. The session served as a platform to deepen stakeholder awareness of the E1 Series’s global significance and Lagos’s preparations to host its inaugural edition on African waters. Attendees heard opening remarks from Mr. Gbenga Omotosho, Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Lagos State, received insights from the Lagos State Waterways Authority on safety protocols, and were guided by the Teksight Edge team on brand communication and usage.

During the session, Mr. Samuel Egube, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor and Chairman of the E1 Lagos GP Local Organising Committee, stated: “Today marks not only an affirmation of our sponsors’ commitment but a promise that we will uphold clarity, professionalism, and integrity in how Lagos presents itself on the world stage. We are proud to have First Bank as our Presenting Partner, alongside other partners who share our vision for sport, innovation, and legacy.”

Honourable Commissioner Gbenga Omotosho remarked, “The E1 Lagos GP is more than just a sporting event; it is a statement of Lagos’s readiness to lead Africa into a sustainable future, where innovation and culture meet global standards. Our responsibility is to ensure that everyone—from the people and media to our partners—tells this story with one voice.”

Mr. Olayinka Ijabiyi, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at First Bank of Nigeria, added: “First Bank is honoured to serve as the Presenting Partner of the E1 Lagos GP. Our over 130-year heritage of supporting innovation and development in Nigeria aligns perfectly with this pioneering event. We are delighted to support a project that showcases sport at its finest while emphasising sustainability and youth engagement.”

The official sponsors of the E1 Lagos GP include: First Bank of Nigeria (Presenting Partner), Oando, Spiro, Sunbeth, and Tolaram Group (featuring Guinness Stout, Johnnie Walker, and The Singleton). These collaborations reflect the commitment of leading brands to Lagos’s vision of hosting world-class events that inspire pride and generate lasting impact.

With these partnerships and the insights shared during the immersion session, the E1 Lagos GP is well-positioned to set a new standard for sports, innovation, and sustainability in Africa, elevating Lagos as a hub of culture, commerce, and global excellence.
