Gafar Odubote Takes Charge of MAPOLY Alumni Lagos, Unveils Visionary Agenda
The Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Alumni Association in Lagos has entered a new chapter with the election of Mr. Gafar Odubote as Chairman, along with 11 other executive members. This significant event took place during the association’s Biennial General Meeting (BGM) last Saturday, drawing a notable turnout of alumni from various professional realms.
Expressing his appreciation for the confidence shown in him, Mr. Odubote committed to revitalizing alumni involvement by enhancing outreach initiatives and encouraging active participation across different sectors. He introduced an ambitious agenda that includes developing a structured funding framework to finance impactful alumni projects, alongside launching mentorship programs, networking opportunities, and business support systems aimed at empowering members.
In outlining his administration’s core objectives, Mr. Odubote stressed the need for infrastructural development, scholarship opportunities, and mentorship for current students. He pledged to elevate the association’s visibility and influence both within the MAPOLY community and beyond, calling on all members to unite in pursuit of shared goals.
The outgoing Chairman, Mr. Olusegun Rufus, delivered a detailed handover report, celebrating the chapter’s resilience amidst various challenges. He highlighted that the association’s activities have been sustained through alumni contributions and fundraising efforts. Mr. Rufus encouraged the new leaders to build upon previous accomplishments and assured them of his continued support.
Mr. Olalekan Otun, a former National President and founding Chairman of the Lagos Chapter, expressed confidence in the newly elected team. He praised their energy and commitment, describing them as catalysts for progress. Mr. Otun urged MAPOLY alumni across the nation to invest in their alma mater through initiatives that can enhance the institution’s growth over its 46-year history.
The new executive team includes Ms. Olufadeke Omo-Omorodion (Vice Chairperson), Mr. Steven Eyanimo (Secretary), Mr. Ayodokun Waheed (Assistant Secretary), Mr. Adekunle Okunowo (Treasurer), Mr. Ibubukun Awoseye (Financial Secretary), Mr. Tobilola Adeboye (Assistant Financial Secretary), Mr. Olusegun Koiki (Public Relations Officer), Ms. Omowunmi Akisanmi (Welfare Director), and Ms. Olushola Adewunmi (Chief Whip). Pastor Samuel Kehinde and Mr. Olusegun Rufus were also elected as Ex-Officio members.
The election process was supervised by Mr. Tolu Ojemuyiwa, a past Chapter Chairman and current Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ), alongside Alhaji Goke Ishola, a representative from the national body, and Hon. Cyrus Johnson. Mr. Ojemuyiwa praised the electoral process for its transparency and adherence to constitutional guidelines.
The event was attended by several distinguished alumni, including Hon. Lanre Oyegbola, Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, highlighting the association’s diverse professional network. With a renewed mandate, the new leadership aims to strengthen alumni connections and make meaningful contributions to both the association and the broader MAPOLY community.
