LG Electronics continues to redefine corporate social responsibility by integrating innovation with community impact. The global technology giant recently commissioned a solar-powered borehole in Nariya Rigasa, Kaduna State, expanding its ongoing commitment to sustainable development and providing residents with reliable access to clean water.

This project exemplifies LG’s evolving brand philosophy in Nigeria: translating cutting-edge technology, sustainability, and corporate responsibility into meaningful solutions that meet everyday human needs.

Speaking at the commissioning, Mr. Paul Mba, Head of Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics Nigeria, emphasized the company’s approach: “For us, innovation has its greatest value when people can feel its impact in their everyday lives. Our responsibility as a brand goes beyond providing great technology to consumers; it also means looking at the communities around us and asking where our capabilities can make a meaningful difference. Access to clean water is fundamental, and by combining that need with a sustainable energy solution, we are demonstrating what it means for technology and social responsibility to work together.”

Mba further highlighted that Kaduna marks the 19th solar-powered borehole donated across Nigeria, reinforcing LG’s dedication to creating social value and fostering stronger community ties.

For Nariya Rigasa residents, the impact is immediate and tangible. Alhaji Zakariyya Ya’u, Head of Nariya Rigasa Village, expressed his appreciation: “Water touches every part of community life. When access becomes easier and more reliable, the benefit reaches our homes, our children and our daily activities. We appreciate LG Electronics for coming into our community, listening to a real need and providing something that will continue to serve our people beyond today.”

Similarly, Alhaji Jamiu Yakubu, Sarki of Yakin Nariya, underscored the importance of responsible corporate engagement: “Development becomes more meaningful when communities, their leaders and responsible organisations work together. What LG Electronics has provided is not simply a facility to commission today; it is an investment that our people will use every day. We welcome initiatives that create this kind of lasting value.”

The project also highlights the critical role of water access for women, who often shoulder household responsibilities related to water management. Hajia Fatimat Sanni, Women Leader of Nariya Rigasa, shared her perspective: “For women, access to water is not an abstract issue. It affects cooking, washing, caring for children and managing our homes every day. Having water closer and more readily available means less difficulty and more time for other important responsibilities. This is why this project means so much to the women and families of our community.”

This shift in corporate citizenship reflects a broader movement from episodic philanthropy toward strategic, sustainable interventions that deliver measurable human value. Mr. Moses Osime, Public Relations and CSR Manager at LG Electronics Nigeria, articulated this approach: “CSR becomes meaningful when it responds to a genuine need and continues creating value after the commissioning ceremony is over. We want our interventions to be relevant to people’s lives, sustainable in their communities and consistent with LG’s wider commitment to a better life. Nariya Rigasa is another expression of that philosophy, listening, understanding and using our resources responsibly to help create lasting impact.”

The integration of solar-powered infrastructure, designed by Mr. Hyoungsub Sub Ji, LG Nigeria’s Managing Director, adds an environmental dimension by reducing dependence on grid electricity and supporting sustainable water access. This approach echoes the company’s earlier project in Uyo, which was built to operate independently of the national grid.

Beyond the technology, LG’s brand story centers on its purpose—building a reputation not just on innovative products but on consistent, value-driven community engagement. By expanding its community water initiative across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones and now in Kaduna, LG is constructing a larger narrative of purpose-led investment rooted in technology, sustainability, and shared value.

For residents of Nariya Rigasa, this purpose manifests in a simple yet profound way: clean water, closer to home.
