Quomodo and Checkpoint Launch AI Security Solutions to Safeguard Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Sector

Quomodo Systems Africa, a strategic partner of global IT leader Checkpoint Systems, has hosted its inaugural customer engagement event in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. As a premier Nigerian technology consulting and systems delivery firm, Quomodo’s latest initiative, in collaboration with Checkpoint Systems, focused on revolutionizing security in Nigeria’s vital oil and gas sector.

Under the theme “Secure Today, Resilient Tomorrow,” the event delved into how cutting-edge intelligent security and innovative technologies can empower organizations to stay ahead in an increasingly digital landscape. Industry leaders and experts from both companies shared insights on the critical role of artificial intelligence (AI) in safeguarding the oil and gas industry, highlighting Checkpoint’s latest tech solutions now being introduced into the Nigerian market.

Speakers emphasized the importance of adopting modern security solutions through Quomodo’s strategic partnership with Checkpoint, underscoring how these technologies are transforming Nigeria’s technological resilience. Notably, Quomodo boasts of deploying Nigeria’s first cloud-based AI security solution that covers all facets of the national economy.

In her opening remarks, Olufunke Tonye-Preghafi, CFO of Quomodo Systems Africa, highlighted the sector’s increasing vulnerability: “The oil and gas industry space attack is beginning to increase. We are beginning to see an increase of attacks in the oil and gas.” She pointed out that smaller companies often become targets first, serving as ladders for malicious actors aiming for bigger, more lucrative targets.

Tonye-Preghafi explained that the event aimed to foster dialogue between Quomodo’s customers and the developers of these advanced security solutions. She emphasized that the goal was to facilitate detailed discussions on Checkpoint’s offerings, directly addressing how these solutions can prevent cyberattacks—particularly in high-stakes sectors like oil and gas.

Highlighting the importance of perimeter security, she noted, “AI can throw out 5,000 prompts and bring out 400,000 attacks. At this point, we have to be smart in all sectors.” She also expressed concern about Nigeria’s current state of industry protection, stressing that “not much has been done for the protection of the industry.”

Addressing Quomodo’s extensive portfolio, she shared, “We have actually deployed a lot of solutions to spread across” the sector. Each client’s environment undergoes a tailored assessment, ensuring that solutions are precisely aligned with their needs. Quomodo’s collaborations include partnerships with major oil companies like Saudi Aramco, leveraging proven solutions to enhance security.

She described Quomodo’s relationship with Checkpoint as an elite partnership, emphasizing their status as one of the few authorized partners in Nigeria.

Kingsley Oseghale, Country Manager for Checkpoint Systems, reaffirmed the strategic importance of the collaboration: “The meeting with the Quomodo’s customers was very strategic and designed to grow the partnership even more with Quomodo.” He highlighted that nine out of Nigeria and Ghana’s top ten banks utilize Checkpoint solutions, with only one remaining to be onboarded by Quomodo.

Oseghale also noted Checkpoint’s significant role in Nigeria’s energy sector, supporting firms like Total Nigeria, Oando, and Sahara Energy in safeguarding their data and infrastructure. “Today is all about having that discussion, trying to let you know how we can help you secure your environment, and how you have been able to see areas where you think CheckPoint can add value, working with our partner, Quomodo,” he stated.

Dr. Happiness Udo, Checkpoint’s West Africa Channel Manager, described Quomodo as a vital strategic partner and a key driver of Checkpoint’s market presence in Nigeria. She revealed that Quomodo is instrumental in introducing Checkpoint’s latest innovations, including the new AI security solutions designed to defend against cyberattacks.

She further highlighted that Checkpoint’s firewalls now incorporate AI features, making them unique in the market. “We are leaders in the Gartner, Marriott, and all of the industry insights that tell our customers where we are in terms of levels for productivity,” she concluded.
