Safeguard Booklet: AXA Mansard, Lagos DSVA Team Up to Combat Domestic and Sexual Violence in Nigeria
In a move to bolster advocacy against domestic and sexual violence in Nigeria, AXA Mansard Insurance Plc has launched a dedicated Safeguard Booklet for teenagers, in collaboration with the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).
Unveiled in Lagos during the 2026 AXA Week for Good, the initiative aims to equip children, parents, teachers, and communities with practical knowledge to prevent abuse, recognise warning signs, and access necessary support services.
This launch is part of AXA Mansard’s flagship global volunteering programme, AXA Hearts in Action, through which employees across various markets commit their time and resources to social causes that strengthen communities and improve lives.
During the event, AXA Mansard Health’s Chief Executive Officer, Tope Adeniyi, stated that the booklet marks another milestone in the company’s broader advocacy efforts to raise awareness, promote early intervention, and foster community responsibility around safeguarding children and young people.
He explained, “Protection extends beyond insurance services; it involves addressing social challenges that threaten the well-being of vulnerable groups. At AXA Mansard, we believe protection means creating safer communities where children and young people can grow with dignity, confidence, and hope. The Safeguard Booklet is an important part of that commitment.”
Adeniyi further emphasised that domestic and sexual violence remain persistent societal issues, underscoring that awareness is one of the most powerful tools in combating them.
“This is why we continue to invest our voice, our people, and our platforms in initiatives like this. Our goal is to foster a culture where safeguarding is taken seriously and where more children are protected from harm,” he added.
The initiative’s theme, “Being a Child Should Never Be a Risk,” reflects the company’s stance that childhood should be characterised by safety, learning, and growth rather than violence, neglect, or exploitation.
Lagos DSVA’s Executive Secretary, Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, described the booklet as a valuable contribution to the state’s child protection efforts.
She remarked, “This Safeguard Booklet ensures that accurate, practical, and accessible information reaches the public. Prevention begins with awareness, and when children, parents, and educators are well-informed, they are better equipped to recognise risks early and take appropriate action.”
Vivour-Adeniyi also praised AXA Mansard for supporting efforts to strengthen child protection systems and raise community awareness about domestic and sexual violence.
Adebola Surakat, Chief Marketing Officer of AXA Mansard Insurance Plc, revealed that the booklet would be distributed across schools, partner institutions, and community platforms to deepen understanding and aid in preventing abuse.
She added, “Our collaboration with Lagos DSVA on the Safeguard Booklet reflects our commitment to leveraging our influence and partnerships to foster safer environments for children. We aim to promote awareness, encourage reporting, and build a collective responsibility in addressing domestic and sexual violence in Nigeria.”
At the event, stakeholders—including students, educators, child protection advocates, and Lagos DSVA representatives—reaffirmed their dedication to creating safer spaces where children and teenagers can live, learn, and thrive free from fear of abuse, exploitation, or violence.
