Stage to Wealth: How TAF 2026 Aims to Transform Africa’s Creative Industry into a Revenue Powerhouse

As African nations seek innovative strategies for economic diversification, TheatreMania Africa Festival (TAF) 2026 aims to elevate live theatre and stage craft as vital financial engines. Under the theme “The Spark: Igniting the African Economy Through Stage Craft,” the festival will bring together industry leaders, investors, and creative practitioners on November 18th and 19th, 2026, at Shodex Gardens, Ilupeju, and the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
The creative economy is among Africa’s fastest-growing sectors, yet stage craft often lacks the structured commercial framework seen in other entertainment industries. TAF 2026 directly addresses this gap by providing targeted platforms—including a high-level Stakeholders Roundtable, Master Class Series, and an Arts/Brand Exhibition—to foster B2B partnerships between corporate brands and creative producers.
Day One at Shodex Gardens will focus on grassroots engagement, economic visibility, and social impact. The program includes Street Theatre showcases, brand exhibitions, and health-focused outreach initiatives like the Africa Rise Against Malaria (ARAM) advocacy and *”A Walk For Peace.”* These grassroots activities highlight the power of creative arts in community mobilization and local economic development.

Alayande Stephen T., CEO and Co-Founder of TAF, emphasized the event’s commercial focus, stating, “We must transition from viewing theatre strictly through a cultural lens to evaluating it as an industrial economic driver. ‘The Spark’ is about building sustainable value chains, from scriptwriting and set construction to ticket sales, lighting technology, and venue operations that generate real revenue across African markets.”
Supporting this vision, Dr. (Otunba) Akin Lewis, Chairman of the TAF Board of Trustees, highlighted the importance of strategic investment and mentorship in ensuring the industry’s economic resilience. He noted, “Investors need to see that African theatre offers viable returns and long-term socio-economic value. TAF 2026 provides the structured environment where policy, investment, and artistic talent converge to build a resilient creative ecosystem for generations to come.”

The programming shifts to the Agip Recital Hall at MUSON Centre on Day Two, featuring the Veteran Fireside Conversation Spotlight, Generation Next Theatre (GNT) pitches, and command performances. The festival will culminate with the African Theatre Fashion & Pageantry Initiative (The Metallic), #Theatre4PeaceAfrica, and the Gala & Awards Night, celebrating key contributors to Africa’s creative landscape.
