Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers Champions Art and Innovation at ART X Lagos
As ART X Lagos marked its tenth anniversary, the event showcased how imagination can shape the future of African cities. Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers, a subsidiary of Stanbic IBTC Holdings, distinguished itself through its sponsorship of *The Library*, a thought-provoking installation dedicated to knowledge, cultural continuity, and reflection.
Held in Lagos under the theme *“Imagining Otherwise, No Matter the Tide”*, the 2025 fair invited visitors to explore how creativity and imagination can foster healthier, more connected urban environments. Over the years, ART X Lagos has become a vital platform for contemporary African art and expression. For Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers, the partnership aligns with its core belief that culture, knowledge, and innovation are essential to building resilient societies. This year, the organization expanded its support through *The Library*, an interactive space designed for quiet reflection and shared discovery. Inspired by Nigeria’s resilient mangrove ecosystems, the installation symbolized renewal, continuity, and collective knowledge. Visitors engaged with curated books and visual materials from the Guest Artists Space (G.A.S.) Foundation library, the ART X curator’s research archive, ART X Cinema programming, and works by renowned Nigerian artist Bruce Onobrakpeya. The installation provided a contemplative counterpoint to the vibrant energy of the fair, encouraging reflection on how stories and ideas shape our world.
Olumide Oyetan, CEO of Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers, emphasized how the theme reflects Nigeria’s resilience—mirrored in the ingenuity of its people. He explained that imagination is vital not only for artistic expression but also for long-term planning, resilience, and financial confidence, helping us envision possibilities beyond the present to create sustainable futures.
He described *The Library* as a space for inspiration, learning, and future-building. Olumide highlighted the importance of nurturing young minds, fostering appreciation for art, and inspiring hope for tomorrow. He praised African artists for their creativity and innovation, believing that celebrating cultural heritage can foster positive change. He urged everyone to take pride in their culture and the potential of what lies ahead.
The event also featured the Kids Tour, which welcomed 60 students from Lisabi Grammar School, Mile High International School, and Roy Dek Academy. The tour introduced young participants to contemporary art, media, and techniques, sparking curiosity and early appreciation for visual arts.
Since debuting in 2016, Stanbic IBTC Pension Managers’ involvement with ART X Lagos has evolved from simple sponsorship to a dedicated partnership aimed at nurturing artistic expression and amplifying African voices globally. Beyond *The Library*, the organization hosted a private VIP experience for select high-net-worth clients, offering exclusive insights into standout artworks and fostering conversations about legacy, creativity, and African art’s future.
