Wema Bank Marks 81st Anniversary with Special Rewards and New Initiatives
Wema Bank, Nigeria’s oldest indigenous national bank and the pioneer of Africa’s first fully digital bank, ALAT, has commemorated its 81st anniversary alongside the 9th anniversary of ALAT on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026.
Moving away from the grand celebration of its 80th anniversary in 2025, Wema Bank has chosen a more customer-centric approach for this year’s milestone. The bank’s anniversary festivities include rewarding customers via the ALAT app in honor of ALAT’s 9th year, as well as launching the 5th season of the “5 for 5 Reward Initiative” during the anniversary event on May 2nd, 2026.
Under the theme “Your Future of Possibilities, Powered by Wema Bank,” the bank will introduce a specialized customer success initiative. This program aims to assist various customer segments—including businesses, students, women in the workforce, creatives, and more—in mapping out and building their envisioned futures. Wema Bank plans to offer tailored insights, strategic support, and practical solutions to enable these demographics to access opportunities, receive valuable support, and accelerate their progress toward their goals.
Commenting on the bank’s approach to celebrating its milestone, Wema Bank’s MD/CEO, Moruf Oseni, stated, “The world is rapidly evolving.
