Why NBC Revoked Licences Of Silverbird, AIT, 50 Other TV and Radio Stations

The National Broadcast commission (NBC) on Friday revoked the operating licences of 52 broadcasting corporations both television and radio stations in the country. This includes the African Independent Television (AIT), Silverbird Television, Ray Power FM and others.

Some of the stations are privately owned and others are owned by state governments .

According to the NBC, the directive became crucial following the debts incurred by the broadcasting organisations totalling an estimated amount of N2.6bn.

This was disclosed in the Commission’s Headquarters in Abuja by Balarabe Ilelah, The Director-General of the NBC.

According to him, all affected Media houses and Radio stations have until 24 hours period to stop operations. adding that a total of N2.6bn is owed by the stations involved.

Below is the list of all the affected Television and Radio stations

The NBC’S Director general also warned that all stations that are yet to renew their licences should do so to avoid sanctions.
