ACMPN Set to Induct New Members, Celebrates Mental Health Awareness Week

The Association for Counsellors, Matchmaking & Psychotherapy of Nigeria (ACMPN) has concluded plans to host the 2024 edition of its annual Mental Health Awareness Week and induction ceremony.
The long-week event is slated to hold from May 20th to 25th and would provide a platform for counsellors and psychotherapist practitioners to unite to sensitise people on the importance of mental health.
Akin Adeoya, CEO, Marketing Mix & Company Limited who is also an expert in counselling will deliver the keynote address on the theme “Barriers to mental wellbeing in Nigeria” at the public lecture on May 25.
Some of the activities lined up to commemorate Mental Health Awareness Week include visitation to schools, webinar, mental health awareness walk, lecture, and induction ceremony which round up the week-long programme.
The President of ACMPN, Dr. Tolulope Oko-Igaire pointed out that people are battling with mental health issues which informed the theme of this year’s theme, adding that the association will be taking the awareness campaign to schools, streets, social media, and other critical places to reach children and adults in a bid to prevent the cases of depression, suicide and others.
“This year’s event promises to be bigger and better; we are focusing on the ‘Barriers to mental wellbeing in Nigeria’ as our theme which is very critical at this period. I must say that people are going through a lot; some are already thinking of committing suicide as a result of depression, while others are experiencing anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, eating disorders, and addictive behaviours. We counsellors and psychotherapists are needed at this critical period and we are teaming up under ACMPN to raise awareness on mental health and wellbeing.”
Mental Health Awareness Week is observed across the world usually in May with the call to discuss the impact of mental health on the lives of people.
ACMPN is established to identify, develop, and maintain professional standards of excellence in counselling, matchmaking, and psychotherapy. It promotes best practices and the development of the profession as well as safeguards the public. It also links those who are looking for services in the areas of counselling, matchmaking & psychotherapy, and those who provide such professional services. In addition, it sets and maintains practice and training standards, and provides a forum where members may exchange ideas, information, techniques, and methodologies.
