Brand Times Editor-in-Chief, Azeez Disu, Wins Marketing Journalist of the Year Award
The Editor-in-Chief of Brand Times, Azeez Disu has emerged as the Marketing Journalist of the Year at the 2023 edition of the Nigerian Marketing Awards (NMA).
He was announced the winner at the award ceremony held at the Eko Convention Center, Lagos; where he clinched the first and second position in the ‘Marketing Journalist of the Year ‘ category while Abimbola Mohammed of Marketing Edge won the third position.
Disu’s entries titled “Rise Of Nigeria’s Fintech Brands And Changing Business Landscape” and “Manufacturing in Nigeria: Why Brand Owners Are At A Crossroad“earned him the first and second positions respectively. According to the organisers of the award, the award recognises the excellent and outstanding works of journalists in marketing reporting efforts from across the country in print, online and electronic media, for the benefit of the Nigerian public.
Receiving the award, Disu who dedicated his award to journalists said “This win is a win for all journalists for the great work will do and the sleepless nights will have. I believe it will spur journalists to keep doing their best to raise the bar and continue to contribute to the development of the society and marketing industry through excellent reportage that a platform like Brand Times has come to represent. “
Earlier at the award ceremony, Chairman, Awards Decision Council, Iquo Ukoh said the council membership comprised 13 distinguished members from different spheres of the marketing communications ecosystem who assessed the 145 entries received from different categories which included the corporate and individual categories.
According to her, “In accessing each entry we looked at problem identification, marketing solutions employed to address the problem, tactics used to execute the identified solution, and results achieved or the performance outcome.”
Speaking on the importance of the award, the founder of Nigerian Marketing Awards, Tony Agenmonmen said that the award is not just a night of recognition, but a collective triumph of creativity, innovation, and unyielding dedication within the marketing industry.

Disu is a multiple award-winning journalist and a consummate writer with more than a decade of reporting brands, marketing, technology, and business stories.
He was awarded the Brand Journalist of the Year at the 2019 ADVAN Awards for Marketing Excellence (West Africa). The same year, he was awarded the PR Journalist of the Year at the 2019 Lagos State PR Industry Gala and Awards (LaPRIGA), and in 2022, he was nominated by the Nigeria Media Merit Award (NMMA) for the Coca-Cola Nigeria Prize for Brand & Marketing Reporter of the Year.
He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communications from the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Marketing from the Waziri Umaru Federal Polytechnic, Kebbi State, both in Nigeria.
He also holds a certificate in “Advancing Nutrition, Health and Environmental Awareness Through The Media” from the prestigious Lagos Business School (LBS) and a certificate in “Risk Issues And Crisis Management” from the London School of Public Relations.
He is also a member of the United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNAN), Commerce and Industry Correspondents Association of Nigeria (CICAN), Brand Journalists Association of Nigeria (BJAN) and lectures at the EkoCity Polytechnic and Ronik Polytechnic, both in Lagos.
