Dufil Prima Foods, the makers of Nigeria’s leading noodles brand, Indomie, has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing the quality of life for Nigerians living with Sickle Cell Disorder by providing free essential medication to 200 beneficiaries. This initiative is part of its decade-long partnership with the Sickle Cell Foundation Nigeria (SCFN).

The intervention, conducted under the “Hope Begins with Care” programme during an outreach at the Sickle Cell Foundation in Lagos, aims to alleviate both the medical and financial challenges associated with managing this lifelong condition.

Speaking at the event, Temitope Ashiwaju, Group Corporate Communications and Events Manager, Dufil Prima Foods, described the partnership as a strategic effort to support vulnerable communities. He also emphasised the importance of ongoing advocacy and awareness.

“More than what we are doing today, I’d like to also let you know that when it comes to advocacy, when it comes to awareness, it should start from you,” he said, urging beneficiaries and stakeholders to deepen public understanding of Sickle Cell Disorder.

Ashiwaju further stressed the significance of genotype awareness and compatibility, especially among young Nigerians making decisions about marriage and family life.

For SCFN, the initiative addresses the high costs of ongoing Sickle Cell care. Caleb Audu, Senior Manager at SCFN, highlighted the financial strain faced by affected families.

“People with sickle cell disorder fight unseen battles. Sickle cell management is very expensive. People sell their properties, they lose their jobs, they lose their means of livelihood,” he explained.

Audu disclosed that Dufil had invested millions of naira towards procuring the medications, providing much-needed relief to beneficiaries and their families.

One of the beneficiaries, 16-year-old Farida Adedeji, who was diagnosed with Sickle Cell Disorder at age two, praised Dufil for its sustained support, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.

Other beneficiaries shared similar sentiments, noting that reduced medication costs would enable families to allocate scarce resources towards essentials such as food, education, rent, and clothing.

Now in its tenth year, the Dufil-SCFN partnership continues to deliver practical support through medication, healthcare services, and public awareness campaigns. It builds on previous interventions, including the 2025 Makoko Community Sickle Cell Outreach Programme, which provided healthcare services, genotype awareness, health education, and training for primary healthcare workers.

Through ongoing collaboration, Dufil Prima Foods and SCFN are committed to easing the burden of Sickle Cell Disorder while promoting informed health choices, resilience, and hope among affected Nigerians.
