Nigerians are increasingly turning to Google Search to acquire new skills and explore entrepreneurial opportunities, with a notable focus on leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to advance their careers. Recent trends released by Google reveal a nationwide pursuit of upskilling and financial independence amid a dynamic and rapidly changing job market.

The surge in career-related searches underscores a strong desire among Nigerians to adapt to evolving economic realities. Over the past year, interest in “how to make money with AI” soared by 40%. Meanwhile, searches for starting a business from home nearly doubled (+90%), and inquiries about launching a business with no initial capital increased by 80%, reflecting a rising entrepreneurial spirit.

Nigerians are actively exploring diverse business avenues through Google Searches. The most popular “how to start a business” queries include real estate ventures, cocoa export businesses, ghostwriting, clothing lines, and importation—demonstrating a proactive drive for financial independence and income diversification.

The trend also highlights a growing interest in digital and creative careers. Top searches related to skills and jobs include “how to start freelancing with no experience,” “how to start a fashion brand,” and “how to start creating content,” indicating a shift towards flexible, digital-driven work.

AI and tech skills are particularly prominent in these search trends. Searches for “how to learn AI” increased by an impressive 160%, making it one of the top trending “how to learn” topics in Nigeria. Other skills experiencing significant growth include:

– How to learn forex trading (+300%)
– How to learn makeup (+270%)
– How to learn Photoshop (+180%)
– How to learn computer skills step-by-step (+160%)
