LASAA Takes Action to Ensure Billboard Safety in Surulere Following Community Concerns

In response to alarming incidents involving a giant billboard that collapsed twice in Abati Barrack, Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) is taking decisive steps to address community safety concerns. The agency has disassociated itself from the illegal billboard, which has caused injuries and posed risks to local residents, particularly military families living in the area.

LASAA emphasized its commitment to maintaining the structural integrity of advertising installations throughout Lagos, stating that any billboard that jeopardizes public safety will not be permitted. The agency clarified that the billboard in question was not registered with LASAA, rendering it illegal.

Despite previous efforts to regulate advertising structures within military, police, and air force locations, LASAA faced challenges in receiving necessary support to enforce compliance. The agency urged collaboration from all stakeholders to ensure safe advertising practices in the state.

The billboard’s owner, Radius Resources Limited, has been sanctioned and suspended from operations since October 24, 2024, due to unethical practices. A stop-work order has been issued to prevent further construction at the site until a thorough re-assessment can be conducted.

LASAA Managing Director, Prince Fatiu Akiolu, reiterated the agency’s focus on public safety, stating, “We take incidents like this very seriously. The safety of our residents is our top priority.” He called on the community and relevant authorities to report any unsafe installations to enhance overall safety across Lagos.

As LASAA continues to manage and regulate outdoor advertising in the state, it remains committed to fostering a safe environment for all residents and visitors.
