Max Air Incident: Flight Operations Resume as FAAN Assures Passengers of Safety

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the resumption of flight operations following an incident at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA). A Max Air Boeing 737, registered as 5N-MBD, experienced a nose gear collapse and a rear tire burst while landing on Runway 06/24.

In a statement signed by Mrs. Obiageli Orah, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, the agency reassured airline passengers about their safety and confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident.

The statement detailed that “On January 28, 2025, at 22:50 hrs, a Max Air Boeing 737, registration 5N-MBD, experienced a nose wheel landing gear collapse and a rear tire burst while landing on Runway 06/24 at MAKIA. On board the aircraft were 53 passengers and 6 crew members. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among the passengers or crew.”

“Emergency services responded promptly, and the incident was managed according to the emergency response plan. The aircraft has been towed to Bay 5 for further investigation, which is ongoing by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to determine the root cause of the incident.”

FAAN also confirmed that “the runway was reopened at 08:00 hrs after cleaning, and normal flight operations have resumed.”
