NEMCEA 2026: EMCOAN Unveils 5th Edition to Monetise and Secure Nigeria’s Creator Economy

...as Brands, Regulators, and Creators Converge to Unlock Nigeria’s Content Potential

The Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) has officially unveiled the highly anticipated fifth edition of the Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA 2026), scheduled to take place on Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd September 2026 at the prestigious Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

Convened under the critical theme “The Creator’s Economy – Elevate Your Craft, Secure Your Future,” the landmark event will bring together over 1,500 industry stakeholders, including content creators, broadcasters, advertisers, and top regulators, to tackle the pressing challenges of media monetisation, audience measurement, digital switchover (DSO), and risk management.

By bridging the gap between artistic talent and long-term financial security, the two-day summit aims to transform Nigeria’s informal creative hustle into a highly structured, globally competitive, and sustainable wealth-generating industry.

A Critical Pivot for African Storytelling

As Nigeria’s creative economy continues to drive gross domestic product and youth employment, the transition from viral moments to long-term financial stability remains a significant challenge.

Addressing journalists at the official press conference, Mr Adeniji Omirin, President of EMCOAN, emphasised that the future of the media ecosystem depends on commercial viability as much as technology:

“NEMCEA has, over the years, grown into Nigeria’s foremost marketplace for the discovery, exhibition, exchange and celebration of television, radio and electronic media content. As an association representing organisations responsible for a significant proportion of content within Nigeria’s media ecosystem, EMCOAN recognises that the future of our industry will be determined not only by technology, but by the quality, creativity, ownership, sustainability and commercial value of the content we produce. We want to move the conversation beyond simply creating content to building sustainable content businesses and sustainable careers.”

Echoing this sentiment, Mr Alayande Stephen T., Project Director of NEMCEA 2026, highlighted the urgent need to secure the livelihoods of African creators:

“The creative industry in Nigeria and across Africa is no longer an informal side hustle; it is a formidable driver of gross domestic product, youth employment, and global soft power. However, a persistent challenge remains: bridging the gap between artistic passion and long-term financial security. Too many storytellers transition from viral moments into financial vulnerability. NEMCEA 2026 is designed to change that narrative. Our focus this year is to move the industry from mere content creation to sustainable wealth creation, ensuring that practitioners robustly secure their intellectual property, revenue streams, and financial futures.”

Risk Management and Insurance: A Game-Changing Collaboration

In a groundbreaking development for the creative sector, NEMCEA 2026 is introducing a dedicated focus on “Exploring the Creative Industry Opportunity for Insurance & Risk Management,” championed by lead sponsor Standard Insurance Consultants Limited.

Speaking on this strategic alignment, Oladapo Bolaji, MD of Standard Insurance Consultants Limited, stressed that financial and physical assets must be protected to ensure sustainability:

“Talent alone does not secure a future. Through Standard Insurance Consultants, we help creators and production houses protect what they have built—their income, their equipment, and their intellectual property. Their staff move around from one location to another, and insurance needs to be in place for those moving teams as well as the owners. We are proud to stand with NEMCEA and its partners this year because we believe every creator deserves not just a roof, but security.”

Standard Insurance announced they would package tailored policies—including group life, personal accident, equipment protection, public fire, and health insurance—specifically for EMCOAN members. In a major boost to the awards, the firm is also gifting a full year of health insurance to the top ten award winners.

Financing the Entire Creative Value Chain

For an industry hungry for expansion, the lack of structured capital has historically stifled growth. LAPO Microfinance Bank is stepping into this gap with robust financial advisory and intervention frameworks.

Oluremi Akande, Director of Communications & Branding at LAPO Microfinance Bank, described content creators as the heartbeat of modern society and pledged major backing:

“What is life without content? Content is the engine room of existence. This is an export-quality industry; our content is consumed even better outside the country than in it, showcasing Nigeria to the world. Passion without finance is trouble, which is why we are here to provide access to finance. Last year alone, we disbursed over 500 million Naira to micro, small, and medium enterprises, of which artists are also entrepreneurs. This year, we have a mandate of 100 billion Naira. We are looking at the entire value chain—not just the artists, but makeup artists, producers, and everyone in the production cycle.”

To further build business capacity, LAPO will distribute 10 copies of their Chairman’s book, “The 12 Commandments for Business Owners,” to help creators develop necessary business acumen alongside their artistic passion.

Local Content and Regulatory Upgrades:

Zee World and ARCON Lead the Charge
NEMCEA’s long-term sponsor, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, reaffirmed its commitment to localising African broadcasting.

Justina Iroko, Business Development Manager at Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited, noted:

“We have been supporting NEMCEA for the past five years, which shows our belief in the Nigerian creative industry. We first started with a lot of Indian movies, but right now, we have a lot of local shows done in Nigeria for Nigerians by Nigerians. We are investing a lot in local content to grow the industry here. Anything that moves the creative industry forward is a conversation we like to be part of.”

On the regulatory side, the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON) is bringing media agencies directly into the fold by launching two brand-new award categories.

Dr Olalekan Fadolapo, Director-General of ARCON, represented by Winifred Akpan, Head of Corporate Affairs at ARCON, announced:

“We are introducing for the first time two new segments into the Awards categories: the ARCON Award for Outstanding Customer Service, and the ARCON Award for Excellence in Payment Discipline. These are specially tailored awards for our partners in the media agencies, proudly supported by ARCON to encourage professional and financial discipline within the broadcasting and advertising ecosystem.”

Similarly, Mr Ralph Akpan, the Director of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) for the Lagos Zone, who represented the Director-General, Mr Charles Ebuebu highlighted that while technology provides the delivery platform, content remains the true core of broadcasting. He strongly encouraged EMCOAN members and digital storytellers to actively leverage the newly activated Free TV platform and the Digital Switch Over (DSO) template to broaden their distribution and help their craft travel further. These remarks have been woven seamlessly into a dedicated section highlighting how regulatory reforms and distribution channels are coming together to support the creator’s economy.
