Nigerian Minister Highlights New Initiatives for Food Security at 10th Agrofood & Plastprintpack Nigeria
The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, laid out the Nigerian government’s comprehensive strategy to tackle food security challenges exacerbated by climate change, economic instability, and health crises at the 7th West African Cold Chain Summit and Exhibition (WACCSE) and 10th Agrofood & Plastprintpack Nigeria held in Lagos.
Speaking before a diverse audience of stakeholders from across the agricultural sector , Senator Kyari emphasized the urgent need for a multifaceted approach to food security, which he described as a cornerstone of economic stability and social well-being. “Today, we gather at a critical juncture in our collective journey toward achieving food security,” he stated, highlighting the intersection of innovation and collaboration as vital to overcoming current challenges.
The Minister outlined a strategic framework aimed at not only increasing food availability but also ensuring its accessibility and nutritional quality. Central to this strategy is the enhancement of agricultural productivity through sustainable practices, improved market access for farmers, and equitable resource distribution policies.
Kyari noted that the Ministry’s initiatives focus on promoting climate-resilient agriculture, enhancing irrigation systems, and providing training and financial assistance to small-scale farmers. He also spoke about future initiatives, including the development of agro-industrial parks and the integration of digital technologies to streamline supply chain efficiency.
“This conference represents a pivotal moment in this endeavor, as it brings together international experts and local stakeholders to explore solutions to the pressing agricultural and nutritional challenges we face,” Kyari remarked. He called upon international partners to engage in dialogue that transcends borders and disciplines, underscoring the importance of collective expertise in addressing the intricate relationship between agriculture, nutrition, and climate change.
