The Digital Economy Panacea to Youths Unemployment Says DG, NITDA

The Director General and Chief Executive of National Information Technology (NITDA), Mr Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi has suggested that the development of a digital economy is a panacea to youth unemployment.

Mr Abdullah stated this during the Junior Chamber International Nigeria (JCIN) third Global Digital Economy Summit (GDES) held last Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at the Event Centre, Alausa Ikeja, Lagos.

According to him ” there is significant room for digital transformation for Nigeria’s economy, society and provision of employment to our youths”

Mr Abdullahi disclosed that the federal government is committed to developing the digital economy.

Abdullahi stated that numerous opportunities exist in the digital landscape and ecosystem and the govt is working to ensure that it benefits all Nigerians.

The summit featured tech experts: Olutumbi Banto, Charter President JCI Continental and co- founder/ CTO Speedbay; Samson Olaghofo, CEO Peakpine Solutions; Asnuoluwapo Akinhanmi, CEO Baobab; Mr Kola Osinowo, COO Imalipay and Oluwasanmi Akinmusire.

The JCIN Global Economic Summit also witnessed a soft pitch session, which featured an opportunity to pitch their tech business ideas to a panel of investors. The winner was awarded a prize of half a million Naira as start up capital.

In his contribution, JCI Nigeria Executive Vice President, Mr Olorunleke Gafar Ofubote disclosed that ” Junior Chamber International Nigeria is a worldwide federation of young leaders and entrepreneurs to create positive change in their communities. JCI Nigeria has over 5,000 members in over 100 local organizations in cities and higher institutions across the country”.

Odubote added that “the Global Digital Economic Summit is JCIN annual event organised to promote the development of the digital economy in Nigeria. The GDES provides a platform for young people to learn about the latest trends in the digital economy, network with other tech professionals and pitch their business ideas to investors”. he said.
