Verdant Zeal’s Innovention Series Sparks Dialogue on Transforming Consumer Culture and Brand Influence

Marketing and communications firm, Verdant Zeal Group Limited, has once again set the stage for innovative brand discourse with the 14th edition of its flagship ‘Innovention Series’. This session focused on how trust, relevance, and cultural resonance are essential drivers of brand success in today’s dynamic marketplace.

The virtual roundtable, themed “The Business of Influence: Brands, Storytelling & Consumer Culture,” convened top industry voices from marketing, storytelling, and consumer engagement sectors. Together, they explored how influence is fundamentally reshaping Nigeria’s brand economy, emphasizing the importance of authentic narratives and cultural sensitivity.

Since launching in 2012, the Innovention Series has established itself as a trusted platform for thought leadership, challenging conventional marketing paradigms, interrogating Africa’s development trajectory, and unveiling transformative ideas that accelerate progress.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Tunji Olugbodi, Executive Vice Chairman of Verdant Zeal Group, underscored the strategic importance of influence, stating, “influence is not just a marketing outcome; it is a catalyst for business expansion.”

He elaborated, “In today’s marketplace, attention has become currency, and brands that thrive are those that tell authentic, and human-centered stories. Beyond likes, impressions, and hashtags lies a deeper promise: the ability of brands to shape and be shaped by everyday consumer culture.”

Dr. Olugbodi emphasized the vital role of storytelling rooted in authenticity and community engagement: *”Authenticity building narratives hand-in-hand with communities; storytelling over selling creating genuine conversations rather than promotional noise; local innovation embedding campaigns in uniquely Nigerian contexts, from Owambe culture to the resilience of the hustle; consistency and character ensuring brands remain true to their promises and identities.”*

He further highlighted that influence is a smart business strategy, citing industry reports indicating that brands with strong narrative identities outperform their competitors in customer loyalty and pricing power. He urged Nigerian brands to strike a balance between influence and integrity, ensuring that consumer culture reflects societal realities rather than distortions.

Concluding the session, Dr. Olugbodi reaffirmed Verdant Zeal’s ongoing dedication to fostering dialogue and innovation through the Innovention Series, which has served as a platform for thought leadership across Africa for over a decade.
