‘We Rise’ The Davido Story.A Motivation For Young Nigerians And Aspiring Music Artist

There is a popular African saying that “when a child is wayward he is his mother’s child but when he is successful he becomes the child of the whole community”. This is the case of David (Davido)Adeleke, a Nigerian afrobeat superstar who is one of the most recognised African artists globally promoting the Nigerian image.
Netng on 15 January 2022 premierred a new documentary that captures story of Davido which centered on the artist’s decade long music career which he celebrated last year 2021
The documentary takes a look at the life story of David From a teenager trying to get the attention of the music world and his struggles with his father who was never in support of his musical ambition,his controversial days with the media,his support for upcoming music stars and people around him. It also features his global acclaimed fundraiser in celebration of his 29th birthday.
This becomes the second documentary from Netng in 12 months following the release of ‘scapegoat” the story of Dbanj in October 2020.
“At ID Africa, our goal is to use digital media for capturing and sharing the stories of people, places, and events that matter to young Africans. Since 2009, Netng has been documenting the lives and times of Africa’s most important entertainers, and today, Davido is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated and recognisable Africans globally,” says Femi Falodun, the CEO of ID Africa.
“Davido’s remarkable story is one that needs to be told, and this is just one of many that will come from Netng and ID Africa’s The Bang Studio.”
The project which took over eight months to make, features original interviews with leading entertainment industry figures such as founder and CEO of Storm 360, Obi Asika and legendary DJ, Jimmy Jatt, media personalities, Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, Eromo Egbejule, and Tosin Ajibade, as well as Davido’s music lecturer at Babcock University, Dr. Olusegun Ojuola.
“Davido’s recent fundraiser gripped the world and you didn’t have to be a fan of pop music or Davido to understand the significance of this and what it means to many orphanages that would benefit from the ₦250 million donations. He is constantly setting a great example for other music artistes across the world,” says Michael Orodare, a writer and Production Coordinator for the documentary.
The Davido story is the first feature documentary on Davido who has won several awards and had about 80 nominations in the span of his career.
The Davido story will act as a motivation and adrenaline for young nigerians and upcoming music artist to keep pushing despite all odds in their Various dreams and ambitions knowing that success comes not in a platter of gold but with efforts and no one has an excuse irrespective of the government of the nation or the economic situation of the nation.
